The Meaning Of Life Essays - Meaning Of Life, Metaphysics
The Meaning Of Life Introduction to Philosophy Paper #1 The Meaning of Life The human civilization has been on earth for thousands of years now. We started off with simple tools and used caves as shelter. Now we depend on computers, enjoy a luxurious life and develop new ways to improve our lives even more. I always wonder if we finally reached the final stage of improvement in our history. I mean what else can we do? When I think about that question, the idea of the meaning of life comes to my mind and I question the reason for my existence on this planet. My personal theory on this subject states that we are here to impress God with our thoughts and actions, in order to prove to him that we can handle any obstacles on Earth in order to achieve faith and glory to be prepared for God in heaven. But then again my theory might not make any sense to someone who doesn't believe in God. If there were no God, then what would the meaning of life for the non-believer be? The meaning of life is a very delicate topic because no one has the answer to it, but there are many theories that attempt to explain it and help us understand life better. There are many people in the world that don't believe in anything and think that nothing really matters because we might be dead in the short future. This is an interesting idea because if the world will end soon, then it doesn't really matter what we do now. I mean if there is no point in life, then why should we even bother to struggle for a better life if those achievements will not be permanent. If we think like that then there is no point to what we do, unless we figure out what life is and what we want to do with it. In my opinion, we can explain the point of most of the things we do if not all. We are all brought up in a similar way and we learn to share our planet with other creatures. We learn to communicate, we express our feelings and we learn something new everyday in order to make our lives better. We work to earn money in order to survive and support our families. We eat, sleep, and enjoy entertainment. We also talk to our friends and try to be the best at what we do. I mean, if we didn't do any of that, then our lives would be miserable and there would be no point to it. Then we ask ourselves again, ?Is that really the meaning of life or is there more to it.? In our lifetime we do all these things and usually we don't even think about them. I mean if we look at our lives there is really no point to it at all. We go through ups and downs all the time, we experience happiness and sadness, and we all think about death. Most of us want to be remembered when we pass away, but then we think about death and we realize that we will be forgotten and only our close family members will remember us. I mean other people won't really care about our death because there is no point to their life either, since the meaning of life is not known to any of us and probably never will be. We are close to our families and we seem to love each other, but that will all pass as soon as death arrives. We all have the opportunity to make our life have a larger meaning. Even if we don't believe that possibility then we can make ourselves belief that it is achievable because many people around us were able to do it. I mean we might be a part of a political or a social movement, which might affect our lives now and benefit the future generations. For example a scientist might be able to achieve that point in many ways. Through his work he can at least figure out a big part of the meaning of life. In today's world we have scientists working on cures for

Free Essays on The Starry Night
The Starry Night Anne Sexton poem The Starry Night reflects the Vincent von Goghââ¬â¢s painting The Starry Night very well. If one was to do a little research into the lives of the writer and the artist they would find that they were kind of in the same path in life when they did these two works. Sexton mood in the poem matches the one in the painting. The two works have a lot in common and that could be because of the creatorââ¬â¢s lifestyle. Van Gogh painting ââ¬Å"The Starry Night was completed near the mental asylum of Saint-Remy, 13 months before Van Gogh's deathâ⬠(online 1) and Sexton were depressed most of the time. Though there is not much information on Van Goghââ¬â¢s life, we can see form Sextonââ¬â¢s life why she was inspired by this painting. She had tried to commit suicide a number of times because she was obviously not happy with her life. She was searching for comfort and when she could not find it in her parents she found it in her aunt who died later on and that made her more depressed. She was not happy in her marriage and had lots of affairs, and seeing therapist who encouraged her to continuing writhing. During her life she had tried to committed suicide on a number of ocasions and was finally successful in the end. In the poem she is viewing death as a serpent that swallows up the stars, she states thatââ¬â¢s how she wants to die, for the life to just be sucked up with no cry. (1401). She was so depressed with life that she, judging from the poem, wants to disappear form everything. She dose not want to exist anymore. Wants to die a quiet and fast death. The painting it self is very depressing, but in a sense itââ¬â¢s kind of restful. The way that its restful is the little houses in the village they seem in a way really cozy and peaceful, while the sky is at war with it self. East Asia in the Modern World Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words - 6
East Asia in the Modern World - Essay Example Chinese students staged a demonstration in Tiananmen Square protesting the terms of the Versailles Treaty, which confirmed Japanââ¬â¢s claims on Chinese land previously occupied by Germany. The students were imbued with Western ideas of equality; democracy, individual freedom, and the Wilsonian claim that all nations have the right to self-determination. Similarly, the young Koreans protested the terms of the Versailles Treaty and demanded freedom from Japanese colonization. It is clear that Versailles treaty was a major trigger of both movements. The fact leaders of both movements were taught abroad is quite significant. A major difference between the two movements was how the movements were undertaken. In china, students from Beijing congregated around Tiananmen Square to demonstrate against the Versailles Conference. The students gave out fliers announcing China would reject the surrender of Chinese land to Japan. In Korea, the protestors majorly compromised of students, homemakers, farmers i.e. ordinary people in society, as well as politicians and religious leaders. The protests intent was to petition to the Japanese people, and these protests erupted randomly throughout the entire country.à In conclusion, the trigger for both movements might have been the Versailles Treaty but the goals were different. Becoming A Teacher Essay Example for Free
Becoming A Teacher Essay Watching these videos, I learned that teachers donââ¬â¢t always have it easy and itââ¬â¢s not always what it looks like, I know that it take a long time for the students to get comfortable with a new teacher and the teacher has to adjust to the new setting of the classroom. It takes a great deal of time so teachers can get their classroom to the way they want it. In the first video ââ¬Å"classroom Management Strategy to Settle Noisy, Rowdy Students at the Doorâ⬠I learned that the teacher should not yell or shout at the students to get their attention because the student will not respect the teacher or have respect for the class and the other teachers around will see that the teacher does not have control over the classroom and that would make the teacher look bad. But on the other hand when the students are outside of the classroom thatââ¬â¢s where the teacher should start to take control or when the classroom management starts and show that they are the authoritive leader in charge. Teacher has to settle the students down gradually, use non-confrontational statements, such as thanking students for doing the right thing, hoping that the others will follow along, use informal chit chat, or getting comfortable with talking to the students, getting down to the students level. In the second video ââ¬Å"How to Get Students Sat Down and Ready to Workâ⬠, teachers need to give students a clear instruction on what needs to be done so there is no room for misunderstanding. Second, let the first group from, to the front of the line and reinforcing actions that needs to be taking. Third, teachers need to repeat the clear instruction that was given. And the final step is to give attention and additional support to what direction was given. In the third video, ââ¬Å"Take control of a noisy classâ⬠, teachers need skills to deal will students, making sure that the teachers has the students attention and keeping it. Establishing a calm atmosphere, and staying positive. In the final video which is ââ¬Å"Five Classroom Management Strategies to Get Student Attentionâ⬠, there was five ways of getting the students attention that was stated. Those five strategies if attention getting included a noise maker, routine, visual reminder, the unexpected, and a countdown. Using a noise maker is loud and it gets their attention without having to shout. A routine is very affective and training the students to learn. A visual reminder is a rather simple attention getting, using traffic light colors (green, yellow, and red). The unexpected is a guaranteed attention getter such as using music or pictures and gives students the perfect way to get attention. The last one is countdown which is the most common attention getter.

History of Television Essay -- TV Television Historical Essays
History of Television à à à à à Television has become a major industry all over the world, especially in the industrialized nations, and a major medium of communication and source of home entertainment. Television is used in many industries. A few examples are for surveillance in places inaccessible to or dangerous for human beings, in science for tissue microscopy, and in education. Today you can find a television in almost every home. This is why I decided to research the history of the television. à à à à à The first television devices were based on an 1884 invention called the scanning disk, patented by Paul Nipkow. This device was a large disk with holes on it, which spun in front of an object while a photoelectric cell recorded changes in light. Depending on the electricity transmitted by the photoelectric cell, an array of light bulbs would glow or remain dark. But Nipkowââ¬â¢s mechanical system could not scan and deliver a clear, live-action image. Many inventors hoped to perfect this. à à à à à In 1921, a 14-year-old Mormon from Idaho named Philo Farnsworth came up with an idea. While mowing hay in rows, Philo realized an electron beam could scan a picture in horizontal lines, reproducing the image almost instantaneously. Philo was not the only one with this idea. At the same time, Russian immigrant Vladimir Zworykin had also designed a camera that focused an image through a lens onto an array of photoelectric cells coating the end of a tube. The electrical image formed by ...

Character of Crooks in ââ¬ÅOf mice and menââ¬Â Essay
Throughout the novel ââ¬Å"Of Mice and Menâ⬠Steinbeck presents Crook as being lonely, intelligent and hopeless. He is in a minority group and is discriminated against because he represents the black community in 1930ââ¬â¢s America. Indeed, it is because of this discrimination that Crooks attempts to draw whatever limited amount of power he can from his surroundings. ââ¬Å"Well I gotta right to have a lightâ⬠. This implies Crooks is defensive and maybe isnââ¬â¢t allowed the things he wants or needs, or the things he see that other people have. He also has a ââ¬Å"shot gunâ⬠and a ââ¬Å"Californian civil code ââ¬Å". These things suggest that Crooks is physically weak and has to have protection and the law to feel power against others. ââ¬Å"Donââ¬â¢t be coming in a place youââ¬â¢re not wanted .ââ¬Å" This quote suggests that Crooks doesnââ¬â¢t want anybody coming in his room, during that time racism was strong and Crookââ¬â¢s has to live on his own, he doesnââ¬â¢t have power over a lot of things so for him to be able to have his own room he will that power over people. Crooksââ¬â¢ desire to exercise power over Lennie may be a result of discrimination he has suffered from in his life. ââ¬Å"The white kids come to playâ⬠¦. My ol man didnââ¬â¢t like thatâ⬠. This shows like most kids they are naive and therefore Crooksââ¬â¢ didnââ¬â¢t understand why his father (ââ¬Å"olââ¬â¢ manâ⬠) didnââ¬â¢t like him playing with the white kids. Crookââ¬â¢s experience of racial conflict and discrimination throughout his life teaches him why his father didnââ¬â¢t want him to play with them. ââ¬Å" I canââ¬â¢t play coz Iââ¬â¢m blackâ⬠this quote is another example of the way society was in the 1930s and how racism was ok it also links to the theme lonely because it shows that nobody wants to be near Crooksââ¬â¢ or do anything with him. Crooksââ¬â¢ lack of social status means he does not only suffer from discrimination from the men on the ranch but also Curleyââ¬â¢s wife. Crooks says ââ¬Å"maybe you better go along to your own house now we donââ¬â¢t want no troubleâ⬠by what he is saying implies that if they are caught with or talking to her there would be trouble, and that she is dangerous to them. And one point in the novel Curleyââ¬â¢s wife is really vindictive towards Crooks and says ââ¬Å"well you better keep your place then nigger, I could get your strung up on a tree so easily it aint even funny.ââ¬â¢ Crooksââ¬â¢ is like prey in this society and is at a disadvantage because he is black. Candyââ¬â¢s wife threatens him by saying she could get him killed andà could do this because she is white. This comment instantly makes Crooks silent and returns him back to his social standpoint by responding to Curleyââ¬â¢s wife buy saying ââ¬Å"yes, maââ¬â¢am in a toneless voice. Crooksââ¬â¢ also attempts to exert power over Lennie in his shack although with limited success. ââ¬Å"Crooks face lit up with the pleasure of his torture.â⬠This may be the first time in Crooksââ¬â¢ life when he has more power than another human being. Lennie panics and struggles to understand, this allows Crooks to exert more control. Lennieââ¬â¢s mentally disabled and is used to discrimination and violence as were black people but because of Lennieââ¬â¢s lack of understanding it allows Crooks to wield power over him and he enjoys it. Crooksââ¬â¢ says ââ¬Å"itââ¬â¢s just being with another guy thatââ¬â¢s allâ⬠. This shows that Crooksââ¬â¢ believes that it does not matter what you say to some on itââ¬â¢s that you say something. Heââ¬â¢s a very lonely person due to the fact he never has anyone to talk to. Crooks is saying having company is what matters, thereââ¬â¢s no need to be choosy about the company itself. This shows his desperation after being isolated for so long. Crooksââ¬â¢ is shown to be a bitter man who sees others dreams as futile. ââ¬Å"Nobody gets to heavenâ⬠. Crooks believes that the dream is impossible and has no hope for anybody moving past there social class and becoming rich. He mentions that tons of men have come through the ranch and said that they were going to get some land but it never works out for them so it leads to Crooks thinking the dream is completely unachievable. After Lennie and candy go one about how they will get the land and how thereââ¬â¢s no stopping them and they seem so sure about it, Crooks says ââ¬Å"if you guys need a hand I could come and lend itâ⬠. Crookââ¬â¢s stops being so negative for a moment and starts to believe in the dream. He feels so comfortable with Lennie and Candy that he forgets his place in that society, but after Curleyââ¬â¢s wife leaves he says ââ¬Å"forget about it just foolin. I wouldn want to go no place like thatâ⬠. Crooksââ¬â¢ has seen all the trouble that people cause when they get together and he has decided he doesnââ¬â¢t want any part of it and thinks that the farm shared by three men would become to chaotic and that George would become tired of responsibility.
